After exactly five years, I have decided to attempt the crossing of Australia once again. From January 7th to February 22nd, 2023, I will run from the east coast (starting in Sydney) towards the west coast to Perth - Fremantle, covering a total distance of approximately 3,800 kilometers.
Five years ago, I completed half of this route: Sydney - Ceduna, which was 1,987 km. The reason for interrupting the run and prematurely ending it was an acute deterioration of my health.
During the extended break, I decided to dedicate my time to my family and my ill mother, who succumbed after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. Therefore, my last event also supported a fundraising campaign for the international organization FOX FOUNDATION, which focuses on research and new treatment approaches for Parkinson's disease. Another obstacle that delayed my attempt to cross Australia again was the Covid-19 pandemic and the related restrictions on movement and travel.
Since I am embarking on this project with a stable and experienced team, and under familiar conditions, I believe that this time I will be successful and complete the entire 3,800-kilometer route. Along the way, I will pass through cities such as Sydney - Yetholme - Orange - Euabalong - (Round Hill Nature Reserve) - Broken Hill - Port Augusta - Kayancutta - Ceduna - Madura - Narrogin - South Fremantle - South Mole Lighthouse Perth.

Nach genau fünf Jahren habe ich mich entschlossen, erneut den Querlauf durch Australien zu versuchen. Vom 7. Januar bis zum 22. Februar 2023 werde ich von der Ostküste (Start in Sydney) in Richtung Westküste nach Perth - Fremantle laufen und insgesamt eine Strecke von etwa 3.800 Kilometern zurücklegen.
Vor fünf Jahren habe ich die Hälfte dieser Strecke bewältigt: Sydney - Ceduna, was 1.987 km entsprach. Der Grund für die Unterbrechung des Laufs und das vorzeitige Beenden war eine akute Verschlechterung meines Gesundheitszustands.
Während der längeren Pause habe ich mich dazu entschlossen, meiner Familie und meiner kranken Mutter zu widmen, die nach einem langen Kampf gegen Parkinsons Krankheit verstorben ist. Daher unterstützte meine letzte Veranstaltung auch eine Spendenaktion für die internationale Organisation FOX FOUNDATION, die sich auf die Erforschung und neue Behandlungsansätze bei Parkinsons Krankheit konzentriert. Ein weiteres Hindernis, das meinen erneuten Versuch, Australien zu durchqueren, verzögerte, war die Covid-19-Pandemie und die damit verbundenen Einschränkungen in Bezug auf Bewegung und Reisen.

Fun facts:
80% of the route consists of asphalt roads, while 20% will be unsealed roads. Daily temperatures will range from approximately 26 to 52 degrees Celsius (79 to 126 degrees Fahrenheit), and nighttime temperatures from 21 to 38 degrees Celsius (70 to 100 degrees Fahrenheit). During the run, my daily fluid intake will be around 8 liters. I will use special food and nutrition supplements during the event. I will be accompanied by a support vehicle with one companion, and if sufficient funds are available, a documentary filmmaker will also be present. As of July 2022, only 23 runners have successfully completed the run across Australia, with only two of them enduring extreme temperatures like ours. (Source)
