Running Across California 2010
San Francisco, Golden Gate Bridge (California) - Las Vegas (Nevada) 997 km
Ultra runner Jozef Rajchl (29) and cyclist Matúš Glatz (34), both from Devínska Nová Ves, attempted to add another continent to their running adventures in September 2010. The run was dedicated to supporting the TEAMFOX organization to raise funds for Parkinson's disease research and treatment.
Unfortunately, due to the runner's health issues, they had to return after completing only one-fifth of the planned route. The health problems arose for unknown reasons, and medical examinations are still ongoing (nephrology).
We managed to cover the 997 km route from San Francisco, Golden Gate Bridge (California) to Las Vegas (Nevada) in 14 days. During the run, we relied on our own self-support without a support vehicle. Matúš pulled a trailer on his bike with a load of 60 kg, filled with food, sports nutrition, a tent, and clothing. The weather was excessively hot for September, with temperatures climbing above 30°C during the day and reaching 42-45°C in Death Valley. The route led through the most interesting places in the USA, such as the salt flats in San Francisco, Yosemite National Park, Death Valley, and the final destination was Las Vegas.
We generated public interest and were pleasantly surprised by the kindness and assistance of local residents.
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the Municipality of Devínska Nová Ves for their long-term support of our activities.
